So I didn't want to do the same old, same old New Year's Resolution. I have found that more often than not when I did make one I would never keep it or I would end up forgetting what I said I was going to do before I could even put it into any sort of action! So this year I have decided that I was going to make Goals for 2011 and I am documenting it in my Blog so I won't forget & now I will have people holding me accountable for them as well! I am really excited and was actually shocked that my list kept growing like it did. I can't wait to look back at everything at the end of this year to see how it went!
1. Enter 2011 Fearless!!
I found myself asking, "What are you afraid of?! Post your blog!!" As you can see this is my 4th posting and I am just now going to be making it public for others to see. I tend to hold myself back from so many things I want to do because of self-doubt, maybe this is why i didn't have a hard time coming up with my goals for 2011! I'm apparently on a roll now!
2. Use all/only reusable bags at the grocery store
With how often I am at the store (multiple times a week), it bothers me when I really start to think about all of the plastic bags that just my family alone goes through. The only re-using of our plastics bags from the store is wrapping up Mela's poopy diapers but with fingers crosses we are hoping that she will be potty trained very, very soon! (See Goal #5) So these bags will not be missed! I need to start stocking my supply now. One of my biggest pet-peeves is when the Bagger at the grocery store only puts a couple things in a bag and considers it FULL. I don't get it, such a waste!
3. Start recycling
This is one of those things that for whatever reason I go cross-eyed when it comes to it. I know it is just because I am not used to the process but then again I was definitly not used to eating vegan when I made that change and I know that was probably a far bigger stretch than recycling! This is just one of those things that I want to start doing it now and that way it will just be second nature for Mela.
4. Start an AMAZING garden this spring
So last year I had read up on CSA's (Community Supported Agriculture and fell in love with the idea! You buy a share(s) of a farm and they deliver you the freshest of the fresh fruits/vegetables every week! It is soo great! It's like the Farmer's Market coming to you! But this year I thought, better yet, I will make my own little farm in my back yard and plant all my favorites. And just when you think it can't get any better, aside from the start up costs the rest is going to be FREE!! You can't get any better than that!
5. Potty train Mela & use Cloth diapers on next Baby
Yes, this goal means that 2011 will be the year of trying for Baby Tapia #2! I am really excited, but most of all I am very excited about getting Mela potty trained and eliminated the use of "traditional" diapers for our family. This being said when we have our next baby I want to start using cloth diapers. As akward as I think the switch will be intitially, I think it will only take a little bit to get used to the transition. We have a couple friends who use them and they say that they would never switch back, they love them! They are soo much cheaper in the long run and once again, BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!! Do we see a pattern for my goals this year?
6. Save 10% of my income to savings/month
Being honest: Marcus & I are terrible savers. This must change this year-no joke. I want to set up our account to automatically transfer the money so that I won't forget or for any reason "justify" not doing it. I also want to start a "Christmas account." Every year, the day after Thanksgiving, we look through all the ads and go out to the stores just to miss out on all the great deals because we never planned ahead to start our Christmas shopping that early. Not this year! We WILL be out with the CRAZIES this year!
7. Do yoga at least once a week/Start running w/Marcus this spring
I need to start putting time aside for yoga atleast once a week. I started doing yoga last spring and loved it! I truly understand what people mean when they say that it "centers" them. I feel like it resets my battery and I am ready to mentally/physically/spiritually handle the week. As far as running, I have said for far too long that I would love to be a runner but that I HATE running! This poses a difficult problem for me but I am determined to push through and become a runner! I think this will be something great for Marcus and I to do together and we can take Mela with us and maybe a couple of overweight dogs that we know!!
8. Go organic as well as continue vegan
When we first switched to the vegan diet I was a little overwhelmed with getting comfortable with everything that I just thought, baby steps. Now that meal planning and grocery shopping comes easier for me it is only right to take the next step. Organic produce not only eliminates all the pesticides/chemicals that are sprayed all over your food but they actually show to have far more nutrients in them than non-organic. So yes, organic is more expensive BUT you are actually getting so much more for your money. Worth it!
